About the Seminars & Presenters

Sportfish in Kentucky Lake & Lake Barkley

Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley are two of the largest reservoirs in the Southeastern U.S. and attract thousands of anglers each year. Largemouth bass and crappie are consistently the most popular species fished for, and in this presentation we’ll cover some of the management activities we complete annually to assess populations of these species. During this presentation we’ll touch on updates from recent sampling efforts for largemouth bass and crappie. We’ll also discuss fish habitat projects that have recently been completed in the lakes.  This seminar will be presented by Nick Simpson the Fisheries Biologist for the Western District of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

Joshua Tompkins

Kentucky’s Aquatic Nuisance Species & Invasive Carp Update

This seminar will give a general overview of the status of aquatic nuisance species of concern for Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife. This talk will focus on Western Kentucky in particular and give an update of the Invasive carp efforts.  Joshua Tompkins,  the Fisheries Program Coordinator for the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will be presenting this seminar.

Crappie Fishing Tactics

Terry Elliott

Terry Elliott will be presenting a seminar titled: Crappie Fishing Tactics. He will talk about all aspects of crappie fishing including installing attractors, searching for fish, equipment choices and best practices for success.

Terry is an avid outdoors-man and has been hunting and fishing his entire life. He has fished on Kentucky Lake for 40 plus years. He is currently a full-time guide on Kentucky and Barkley Lakes: Elliott’s Guide Service offers crappie, catfish and bass trips as well as offering electronics training. Terry lives with his wife, Darla near Greenfield, Tennessee. For more information, you can visit his website at www.elliottsguideservice.com or stop by and see him at his booth during the show.

Fishing Electronic Networks Explained

Matt Quinn

Want to understand how electronics work together to make fishing more successful.  Then plan to attend this seminar presented by Matt Quinn.  Lowrance, Garmin, Humminbird and Raymarine all use several communication networks to provide you with the best imaging, positioning and electronics integration on your boat.  He will discuss and explain what each network does and will not do despite popular beliefs and false internet information.

Questions like:  How does my trolling motor talk with my fish finder?  How can I read my engine’s gauge information on my fish finder?  How can I share my live sonar on multiple fish finders at the same time? will be discussed.  Topics explained will include NMEA 2000, Ethernet, Wireless Ethernet and Bluetooth.  Matt has an electrical engineering degree from the University of Missouri.  His passion for fishing and boating lead to him to create HITEC as a premier marine electronics dealer and outdoor store. Be sure and stop by the HITEC booth during the show.
